The Wirrabirra Education Support Centre is situated on site at Wirrabirra Primary School. It is a Government facility catering for primary age students with intellectual and physical disabilities in the Canning District. Students are enrolled via a Placement Committee from Canning Education District Office.
These students have access to a school bus service and forms are available through the front office when enrolling. Parents must complete the relevant school bus forms and acceptance onto the school bus is approved by the Department of Transport.
The Centre is an integral part of Wirrabirra School and the two facilities share a common vision, joint P&C body and School Council. A high value is placed on inclusion at Wirrabirra. Both schools work collaboratively to ensure a balanced program is provided. The students are all valued as learners and individual education plans are tailored to meet the needs of each child. The Staff are committed to a team approach to teaching and learning in an inclusive setting to ensure they are making best use of existing expertise and knowledge. Parents are also valued as a part of the team and are encouraged to contribute in the planning for their child’s educational needs.
Therapy Focus
Therapy Focus provides Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy for eligible children at our Centre. These services are usually provided in school. Teachers provide information to the therapists which enables our children to receive the most appropriate therapy. Parents are also given the opportunity to express their concerns and therapy goals at annual Family Needs Screening appointments. Teachers are also encouraged to attend these appointments.
School Bus Service
Students who attend Wirrabirra Education Support Centre have access to a bus service if required and at present travel from Gosnells and the surrounding areas of Huntingdale and Thornlie. Parents must complete the relevant school bus forms and acceptance onto the school bus is approved by the Department of Transport.
